The establishment of the District & Sessions Judge Upper Assam District Jorhat was created on 15.11.1948 and has been made permanent w.e.f 1st April 1953. History of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Jorhat :
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate with the office was established in the year 1975 and the first judicial officer to become the Chief Judicial Magistrate was R.M.Chakravarty. The records available show that the Chief Judicial Magistrate court started functioning in the year 1970 headed by Addl. District Magistrate(J) before bifurcation of judiciary from executive.
